Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay Review

The A-list of Sydney’s best hotels just got a little longer as the new Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay opened its doors in November 2014. For those looking for true luxury Sydney hotels during their stay, read on to discover an exciting new offering.

With an intriguing history that saw this iconic building start its life as the famous Ritz Carlton back in 1991, the newly refurbished Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay is truly a unique and compelling option within the luxury Sydney hotel market. As the name suggests, the hotel is located in the exclusive waterside suburb of Double Bay, an address that is synonymous with style in Sydney and has a Rodeo Drive type feel to the neighbourhood, with excellent local fashion, shopping, dining and services available. Although the hotel is only 5 minutes from the city centre by road, there is a distinctly relaxed, effortless style to the area that will have great appeal for discerning guests looking to immerse themselves into a quiet and ambient part of Sydney, without any sacrifice on quality. The hotel’s own description as ‘Sydney’s newest luxury address’ is well earned and it is worth noting that the hotel represents the only 5 star Sydney hotel option outside of the city centre.

Intercontinental Sydney Double Bay review

Intercontinental Double Bay has 140 rooms available with 15 of those being suites that allow exclusive access to the hotel lounge, private check in, complimentary breakfast, all day refreshments and evening canapés and drinks. Many rooms have private balconies with water views out over the extensive Sydney Harbour and all rooms surround a French provincial courtyard which forms the heart of the building. To add to the Sydney luxury travel experience, the hotel offers its guests in-house dining at the Stockroom restaurant and the exciting Stillery concept bar which combines an extensive drinks list with a tapas style menu. Located in the ground floor retail space is renowned Sake Japanese Restaurant and Bar which has already won over Sydney diners in its original Argyle Street location in The Rocks. As seen in the attached image, the rooftop pool and lounge offers a luxurious retreat with spectacular views over the bay in a relaxed Mediterranean inspired space.
